If you love to travel (like me) this option is probably way cheaper than hostels and the people you meet are most likely twice as interesting. That latter of that statement may not be true but it’s an option for a frugal traveler like myself. I will do this before I die.

Social Networking is all the Rage, enough already!

Everyone knows about the huge social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook. But it seems like every website is adding some sort of internal social networking aspect to it. Some sites such as Vimeo and Youtube need this to survive but it seems unneccesary to add these applications to sites like etsy, an ebayesque site where users can host their handmade wares. So what happens when you belong to all of these different sites, you have to create a profile for each one, upload photos, and if you want to keep in touch with everyone on all of these different networks you have to visit them weekly. My dream: a universal networking site, that is connected to virtually every other networking site. That is what ultimately must happen and probably will. But who will own the monopoly? It’s getting increasingly difficult to remember all of the SoNets that one belongs to. SoNets: that’s the word of the day and it’s mine unless someone has already claimed rights to it. So this is the question, how will we as an internet community decide who wins this SoNet war?

I decided to change the theme of my tumblog because I was too lazy to figure out how to actually make it look good. Maybe someday I’ll mess around with it and figure shit out. Maybe now that the semester is over I’ll start getting stuff done on my to-do list. Probably not though, ~~I’ll just talk about it and never actually accomplish anything.~~ I will get that shit done. I’m determined to make my life successful as possible and nothing is going to stop me. I wonder if everyone feels like this when they are in their 20’s.

A little background about my job, I work at a university at our alumni office. I sometimes take calls regarding Alumni requesting information on friends they have lost touch with. Today I recieved a call such as this one, I looked up his friend and had to tell him that unfortunately his friend had passed away. He immediately started to choke up and I felt awful. I told the man I was sorry and tried my best to console him. He thanked me and simply said, “Well that’s life.” He hung up and I continued my search for more information on his deceased friend. I found an obituary online that matched and called him back. I told him he passed away a couple of years ago and he asked if I could email him the obituary. I did. He called back about 10 minutes later. “This isn’t my friend, his last name only has one N in it.” I was relieved but realized at the same time how much pain I just put this man through. He was looking for a friend whom he had lost touch with in college, they were roommates, he had been his best man in his wedding, and I just lied to him and told him he died. He’s still searching for his lost friend and I wish him all the best.

I’m going to try to make a point of posting something on this thing at least once a day for those people actually interested in my life. So far, nothing interesting has happened. Everyone in the office left for lunch while I’m here finishing my tuna and rice. I think I might buy that domain www.tunaandrice.com since it’s up for sale. Also I was thinking about someday starting a sushi place like YO! Sushi and having the name be TUNA and RICE. I think it’s clever. But if you’re not in my family or have ever eaten tuna and rice you don’t get it. I might put up a recipe on all recipes so that people can experience the greatness of it.
